My joy begins with broken promises,
Trustworthy words found in the greatest lie,
The face whose smile begins with love’s eyes,
Gazing on the celebration of history’s story,
Joy understood because of my repentant sadness.
Contempt will finish with a despairing gasp,
Rebellion forgets Eternity’s legacy found in every soul,
Faithfulness builds on life just as hate builds on death,
The painful leaving behind of hatred’s lies,
Is the only way to escape death’s shadow,
Darkness crossing every life,
Is the reminder of the story that starts with Grace,
When death’s shadow passed over my life,
The blood of brokenness was my salvation,
Painful violence piercing my deepest parts,
Healing came from a word that said, “Enough”.
My joy is witnessed by my soul’s scars,
“Enough”, became the celebration of plenty,
What I thought was lost wasn’t worth the cost,
Finding instead the source of abundance,
Beginning with making this day full of Eternity’s praise.
